Out-takes : Student Images from Delhi photo workshop

Oct 2013

It was the first time we were doing a photography workshop with special needs students.

It was great fun yet tough at the same time for eg. Capturing their attention and reinforcing the concepts to them was something new we learned . And we had to keep trying innovative ways to make this  possible .

Some images taken by the students during the workshop- portraits, funny moments, random stuff. It was the first time for them as well…

Meet the mentor : Dr. Vivek M

He’s an accomplished photographer and  joins us from Bangalore.More about Vivek…

Vivek Muthuramalingam is an independent photographer and visual journalist based out of Bangalore, India.

In his documentary work, Vivek seeks for ideas that can serve humanitarian purposes. He strives to dedicate his abilities for projects that can illustrate and inform socially relevant, ecologically urgent and culturally important themes that can perhaps help serve a greater cause of change and sustenance. He is partial to ideas that coax a narrative and inform a deeper connection with the subject. He attempts to bring a similar approach to his editorial assignments where understanding the issue and subject is core for a creative endeavour.

He studied fine-art at the Ken School of Art, Bangalore and completed his studies in medicine at Kolar, Karnataka. He worked briefly as a junior surgical resident in the Department of Urology at the Manipal Hospital in Bangalore before he turned to photography.

Vivek’s photographs have appeared in print in the pages of Gulf News (Friday supplement), The Wall Street Journal, The Sunday Guardian, Motherland Magazine, Outlook, Perfect Places, Down to Earth, Tehelka, Domus India, OPEN and The Indian Express. He has also contributed to publications and printed reports for The WHO and Greenpeace. He was a staff photographer with the TimeOut Bangalore magazine from 2009 to 2011.

Meet the Mentor: Ayush Ranka

Ayush joins us from Bangalore. He’s independent photographer based in Bangalore, India, with over 11 years of photographic experience and has worked in Travel, Editorial, Portraiture, Corporate, Industrial photography and work of a photo-journalistic nature.

That makes our tally of photographers 17 . And we are still looking to increase our roster . Here’s more about Ayush.

Urbanization, Human Rights & Culture are topics he likes to work with. Ayush believes that in a true democracy everybody has a right to a life with dignity regardless of their background. These motivations are a conduit for the exploration about life that comes easy to some and is almost impossibly arduous for others.

Whether he is shooting a transgender festival in a rural Tamil Nadu or taking portraits of leading corporate personalities, Ayush is a seasoned photographer for all reasons. He was accepted by Getty Images in 2013 as part of their roster of freelance photographers. He was selected as one of the top ten short-listed photographers of the Redux Scholarship for the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop, Manali, India, 2009. He was head faculty for photography, 2007-09, at National Institute of creative Communication (NICC), which is also the official Canon Pro Center in Bangalore.

His commercial clients include Volvo, Nestlé, UVEX (Germany), and Azim Premji Foundation among others. He has been published in The New York Times, GQ (India), Financial Times Magazine, Harvard Business Review, Architectural Digest and Femina Magazine. Ayush likes to take up challenging projects whether it’s a commercial assignment or work of an editorial and photo-journalistic nature.

Ayush will be joining us from Bangalore.

Meet the Mentor :Karan Zadoo

Karan Zadoo joins HCC…

in his own words…

Hello I am a Karan Zadoo a photographer based in Delhi.

I was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, before moving to Delhi as a young child. I was with an Advertising Agency as a Marketing Executive to promote brands before I left to follow my passion for landscapes and travel which led me to photography. Six years ago after a trip through the Himalaya I returned to Delhi and completed a course in photography. Since then I have travelled all across the country seeing and immersing myself in each place I go, capturing images along the way.   My trusty Nikon cameras accompany me on every occasion. I have learned that the eclectic range of people throughout India offers untold photographic opportunities, whether it’s from the back lanes of Delhi or any place or the hills of Himachal stories are waiting to be captured. I love travel which incorporates landscapes, food, people, festivals and occasions such as fairs.  For me it’s about understanding the people and their respected state and place where they belong to. I continue to pursue my understanding of the various kinds of people and their life.

I have done business and commercial photography as well as having my images published in magazines, newspapers, and books. I have been fortunate to win various awards for my work from Lonely Planet, Light and Composition and many others.

I look forward to share any knowledge and advice I have gained as my time as a photographer to help encourage and support others love and passion and talent for photography. I have had the great opportunity of working with and learning from many great photographers and can only hope to help underprivileged to gain confidence and happiness through the lens.

Photography workshop in New Delhi

The excitement was palatable.

” I want to photograph leaves ”

” I want to photograph animals ”

” I want to photograph Priety Zinta ”

And so the photography workshop in Delhi started in collaboration with Amrit Foundation of India and Akshay Pratishthan.

the students were quite excited . they were addressed by many people: teachers, mentors, volunteers and of course our photography teacher Vivek . The atmosphere and the energy of students rubbed on everyone and I guess at the end no one wanted to leave. Or probably wait for the next week where another session begins and photography exercises are passed by Vivek to students.

Can’t wait to see what the students click !!
